The Bourbon Triumvirate was made up of hree men John B. Gordan, Alfred Holt Colquitt, and Joseph E. Brown. All three men served in the Civil War, this fact helped their political careers. These men dominated the Democratic Party. They were called Bourbon, which implied that they clung to ideas of the past and Triumvirate because they supported the New South movement and welcomed industrialization. They also believed in less popular idesa like white supremacy and the convict labor system. After Gordon became governer of Georgia, the Bourbon Triumvirate collapsed because of President Grover Cleveland's Low Tarrif Address of 1887.
